WP 3517 |
Description: |
COOKSON OK April 1985 -- Western Pacific GP40 3517 is far from its former home rails as it sits in the noon sun. The light is questionable but I had to shoot Western Pacific paint in Oklahoma. EMD built the 3517 (s/n 36824) on August 21 1970. After acquisition by Union Pacific it was to be renumbered UP 666 but on August 31 1985 it was retired and returned to owner-lessor Helm Financial Corp and was leased to Soo line. In April 1987 it became Chicago Missouri and Western 3517 and in July 1987 was renumbered CMNW 3000. In January 1990 it became Gateway Western 3000 and in January 1991 became Wisconsin Central 3000. , (Date of photo approximate, roster information from http://www.wplives.com/motivepower/drosters.html, http://www.trainweb.org/WPRRINFO/WhereAreTheyNowGP40.html, http://utahrails.net/all-time/all-time-08.php#gp40-wp3517 and http://www.trainweb.org/wisrail/wcroster.htm#Histories) |

ATLT 1948, vandalized |
Description: |
WATONGA OK July 28 1985 -- Austin Todd & Ladd GP9 1948 awaits work. Sadly the unit appears to have undergone damage as the cab windows show evidence of possible bullet holes. The locomotive was built (s/n 24059) in June 1958 for Northern Pacific as NP 369, became BN 1948, retired in February 1985 and then to ATLT 1948. ATSF 5394, RE-SCAN |
Description: |
DAVIS OK Aug 23 1985 -- ATSF SD45u 5394 was the first Santa Fe unit to be painted in the proposed SPSF paint scheme. It was painted in this experimental scheme with white lettering instead of yellow, four stripes in the cigar band instead of three and a lower level of black for the roofline. The white letters were later changed to yellow. Fellow railfan Greg Hall and I saw the unit rolling westbound (compass south) through Norman OK but we were unable to photograph it. It was the first Kodachrome unit either of us had seen so the chase was on. We paced it south to Davis before we got far enough ahead to try for a shot. I took the street heading south just east of the crossing and floored my Suburban. We actually went airborne once but managed to stop and get a few shots in the rapidly fading light. I had to pan the image but it is still somewhat blurry. (Roster information from http://atsf.railfan.net/sfkodcrm/i5394.htm) |
