CP SD40-2F "Red Barn" |
Description: |
This is the first SD40-2F "Red Barn" that I have ever seen. Not too many get through here. It is in nearly original condition, with the nose window and numberboards. Site Contributor Jim Haguewood sanded this unit last night in Little Rock around 22:00. He said it had buttons for the independant and automatic brakes. I had to knock down a few weeds for the shot. I was really impressed with the unit. When you walk by it, it is REALLY loud. I jumped when the air reservoir discharged, lol. I was pretty close to it while I was knocking down weeds. |

Description: |
As I was getting off of the unit, I snapped this shot of the UP Shield under the headlights. Before I got off, dad was flashing his lights at us, we did the same with the unit's headlights, that had to have been funny to watch. You'd be driving by over the crossing and some train 100 yards down the track just sitting there flashing its lights at a van, that was funny! |

Entire Train and One Behind It |
Description: |
From Three Mile Road at MP 145 the train stretches half way back to Dudley. You can see another train waiting behind this one in Dudley. They flashed their lights at us again as we were leaving, they said they would do the same if they saw us again. UP 6004 was the DPU. We went by Dexter B-B-Q for some ribs and then headed home with the goodies. As we were pulling into Dexter B-B-Q they were moving past One Mile Road, they tied the train down at MO Jct. and went off duty at 18:05. |

Ex-Amtrak GP9u |
Description: |
It sure was a surprise to see this 56 year old high nosed ex-AMTK GP9u at the back of the consist! This unit started life in August of 1950 as WAB 451 (A Wabash GP7, it later worked for N&W too). It was rebuilt as a GP9u in 1978 for Amtrak and painted in their MOW Orange sheme. This unit was retired in June 2005 at Albany, NY in this silver and black scheme shown here. All they've done was apply a small stencil on the cab, and remove the horn and put blue masking tape over the Amtrak logos, still a VERY Amtrak unit, even has its strobes. They were used as switchers and in MOW Service before being retired. |

This is UP Train AEGAS 03, that Unpatched SP really makes it look good. The conductor just got back to the head end after AAA Limo delivered him from recoupling the train, having been cut for a crossing for a couple hours. As I shot these, UP 1988 and UP 1982 rolled by behind me on the UP Jonesboro Sub., so we took after them. These SPs would be around forever, right? Idiot! |

They didn't think they had an EOT and were searching trains along the way, we heard them coming through Bernie on the scanner, 5 minutes later we were hearing it's horn, that's a fast clip! The dispatcher told them to stop here and the engineer walked back and found one on the TFM Engine, the conductor went into the yard office and found a new battery. Northbound Manifest With BNSF Power |
Description: |
This was a very nice surprise on UP Train QNLCH 26. Not only was this a UP Train, but these are uncommon units to begin with. We were crossing the overpass over US Highway 60 in Dudley when we saw them cross the road ahead of us, so we hightailed it back to Dexter where we caught it at Two Mile Road. It appears BNSF 562 has ran a little hot at some point. It sure was great to see the ex-ATSF Power today, and GE Dash-8's look great in BNSF Paint. |
