Title:  CN 4-6-2 #5251 - Canadian National
Description:  H.L. Goldsmith caught this CN 4-6-2 Pacific #5251 in storage at the Montreal Turcot Yard awaiting its final retirement and scrapping in September of 1961. Built by Montreal Locomotive Works in 1918 as CRG #478, it was entered onto the CNR roster in 1919 as CN #5251. Specs - serial #59463, class J-7-a, 69" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 24x28" cylinders, approximate engine weight of 268,000 lb and tractive effort of 39,736 lb.

Description:  Nice example of a Montreal Locomotive Works 4-6-2 Pacific built in 1918 as CGR #518 but now stands in a storage line with its windows covered and a block of wood over its headlight. Specs - serial #60486, class J-7-b, 69" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 24x28" cylinders, approximate engine weight of 268,000 lb and tractive effort of 39,736 lb. Title:  CN 4-6-2 #5293 - Canadian National
Description:  H.L. Goldsmith found CN 4-6-2 Pacific #5293 in storage at the Montreal Turcot Yard awaiting its final disposition. Note the block of wood covereing the headlight. Built by MLW in 1919 as CGR 521, it was renumbered CTR 1521 and then in 1923 CNR #5293. Specs - serial #60488, class J-7-b, 69" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 24x28" cylinders, approximate engine weight of 268,000 lb and tractive effort of 39,736 lb. The loco was finally scrapped in June of 1961.

Description:  Still looking good but wearing an ominous protective wood plate over its headlight, CN 4-6-2 Pacific #5300 sits in a storage line at the Montreal Turcot Yard awaiting is final disposition. Built by MLW in August of 1920, the loco served the CN until being scrapped in April of 1960. Specs - serial #61945, class J-7-c, 69" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 24x28" cylinders, approximate engine weight of 268,000 lb and tractive effort of 39,736 lb. H. L. Goldsmith photo

Description:  Still in revenue service, this CN 4-6-2 Pacific #5280 heads up a passenger train pulling through the Turcot Yard in Montreal. Built by Montreal Locomotive Works in 1918, it was originally built as CGR #508, became GTR 1508 and eventually in 1923 merger as CN 5280. Specs - serial #60475, class J-7-b, 69" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 24x28" cylinders, approximate engine weight of 268,000 lb and tractive effort of 39,736 lb.
