Riding the footboard |
Description: |
A practice long outlawed in day to day railroading, riding footboards continues on some museum operations, due to the historic equipment being exempt from the requirement that footboards be removed. The conductor of this train rides the footboard of the tender during this run around move at Leaman Place, adjacent to the ex PRR main line. |

Four and a quarter |
Description: |
Andy Mullers ex GM&N 425 ran a trip from Hoboken to Port Jervis on the rainy day of August 2 1986. There are no turning facilities in place at PO by this time, so the train ran behind a pair of M&E Alcos, while the 425 was turned on the wye at Campbell Hall, and run backwards to Port Jervis so it would lead back to Hoboken. Here it is going into Otisville tunnel on the blocks of its train. |

Where the magic happens |

In todays world, where steam service facilities are hard to come by, engine crews have to bring their own. The tool car trails the engine, tender, and canteens as the train rolls through Hillburn, just west of Suffern. |

Looks like NKP 765 is doing most of the work as the engine and its tool cars pass Arden. Rather than take a lot of time to have the Berk back to Campbell Hall, turn, and return to Port Jervis, the train headed to Hoboken behind M&E Alcos, with the steamer returning behind this NJT unit. |

No its not 1946 |
Description: |
During the Broome County Fair, NYSW ran trips from Whitney point up to the county line near Killawog. During one of these trips for the 1992 fair, a 1936 Buick pulled up to the NY 79 crossing in Lisle just as the train approached. The driver was actually paying attention, and unlike most motorists who go rolling right into your photo in a battered Ford, stopped before getting into the picture. Seeing the chance for an unusual shot, I waved him into the picture for a classic scene. |
