Viewing Album:  Pan Am / Vermont Railways: Swapping trainsets in North Bennington

Album Info:I spent two days chasing trains that were either heading toward or away from North Bennington, VT. Vermont Railways and Pan Am Railways meet in North Bennington every weekday around noon to interchange cars. On Mondays-Wednesdays-Fridays, the Pan Am train is AD-1, which originates in North Adams, MA. Tuesdays and Thursdays the Pan Am train is RJ-1, which comes out of Rotterdam Junction. Vermont Rail sends down its North Bennington turn 5 days a week from Rutland. By staging a meet, the crews are able to expeditiously forward their trainsets to the other railroad and commence the return leg of their respective turns. On Monday, I intercepted AD-1 at Hoosick Junction and chased it over to North Bennington. The VTR train hadn’t arrived yet, so I proceeded north and intercepted the southbound Bennington turn in Shaftsbury. I decided to chased the northbound VTR train when they departed North Bennington enroute to Rutland. On Tuesday, I intercepted RJ-1 west of Mechanicville, NY and chased it as far as Eagle Bridge, where the Pan Am crew set out a single grain load for the Battenkill Railroad before proceeding on to their planned meet with VTR in North Bennington.
