Jim Bruce General Nice!!! but 7908 is a GP11. 11/3/2008 12:31:47 PM
Joseph Yarbrough General All of ICG's GP11 locomotives were numbered in the 8700-series. Interestingly, ICG 9626 is painted and lettered for ICG, but the logo on the nose is the old IC split-rail logo. 11/3/2008 1:00:48 PM
Mary Rae McPherson General Some of the later Paducah rebuilds had the spartan cabs and the later air filter housings found on the GP11s. 7908 is indeed a GP8, as were all units in the 7700-7900 series. GP10s were in the 8000-8400 series. Two other Geeps were rebuilt in a program that was not continued; two GM&O GP30s were rebuilt as GP26s 2601 and 2602. 12/11/2009 6:43:19 PM
Mary Rae McPherson General 9626 was the first diesel I was invited into the cab of. "Frosty" Rose was inspecting the unit, which was assigned to the yard in Carbondale one day in 1987. He had seen me hanging around the property for some time, and we talked quite a bit around the Amtrak station when he worked as a carman getting train 392 ready for the road. He called me up into the cab and showed me how everything worked. He also showed me the finer points of getting on and off moving equipment, though it would be years before I would have any reason to put that information to good use. 12/11/2009 6:47:12 PM
