Built in 1948 by Budd in Lot #9662-031 to Plan #9520 as PRR 10RM-6DB sleeper #8449 for the CALIFORNIA ZEPHYR; the car was ordered in December 1946 and delivered in November 1948. This was Pennsy's contributing car to the CZ pool, for through sleeper service Chicago-New York on the BROADWAY LIMITED; the PRR and NYC provided this through service with 10-6 sleepers on alternating days of the week; NYC covered this pool with Budd-built VALLEY-series 10-6 cars. Later PC #4378, the SILVER RAPIDS was sold to Amtrak in 1974 as #2649. Amtrak planned on converting the SILVER RAPIDS to HEP as #2482 in 1983, but this was cancelled and the car was stored until sold in 1985 to David Goodheart.
