PRR E44 #4407  Contributor's Pick!
Built by GE in 1960, this brick-like electric unit had two single-arm Faiveley pantographs and could generate 4400 hp for moving freight. According to Wikipedia, "The impact of the lettering (and paint scheme) was diminished by the fact that the units were seldom washed and became very grimy, due to the assignment of the units to diesel service facilities whose automatic car washers lacked overhead wiring." All E44's were retired in 1981 when Conrail eleminated electrification and sold to Amtrak.
