PRR 4398, I-1S, 1939
Hollidaysburg. Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 24 May 1939. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4398, an I-1S built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during February of 1923, rebuilt in Juniata as an I-1SA in April of 1944, and retired in 1960 after 37 years of faithful service. In this context, it's coupled behind a cabin car and will soon begin pushing a freight train up the Allegheny Mountains via the Muleshoe Curve to Gallitzin, where it will uncouple and return to East Altoona for further assignments.
