CB&Q 5632 on last photo run by of the day before returning to Chicago. Photo taken from route 52 and 64 highway bridge over the Mississippi river of train moving south on the river’s east bank. Note that after the train was turned the private car "Captain Hook" is now at the end and the open gondola is now behind the tender. It was dark before the train got back to Chicago and they were trying to make up time by going 80 mph plus. You didnt hear a "chuff chuff" but rather a deafening roar of the exhaust and track noise. It was quite a visceral experience. |
