Coal Power. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide that was taken near Englewood, Illinois, c. 1946. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #1980 and another locomotive whose road number is not recorded. Both are K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics." #1980 was built in Juniata during March of 1918 and retired in January of 1949 after 31 years of faithful service. In this context, they're rockin' 'n' rollin' with a streamliner out of Chicago's Union Station that's bound for Pittsburgh and points East. The photographer's name and the exact date are not recorded. |
