Chione. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken near Thorndale, Pennsylvania, on 14 July 1957. The photographer is not identified. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #559, an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built in Juniata in November of 1914 and retired in August of 1959. In this context, it awaits its next helper/pusher run out of Thorndale. Partially visible at the right is PRR engine #9412, an ES-6 switcher built by GM-END in October of 1950 and rated at 600 horsepower. |
