PRR 9784, EF-15A, c. 1961
Mann. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken near Newport, Pennsylvania, c. 1961. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9784 and two more "EF" Class units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9784 is an EF-15A built in February of 1951 and retired in December of 1967 after just 16 years of revenue service. In this context, this A-B-A set is pulling a mixed-cargo freight train out of Enola to Altoona and points West. Visible at the left is a small portion of the ice-covered Juniata River. Got y'ur skates? ("PrrFan18n")
