This locomotive was never numbered USNX 65-87001. Originally an Army locomotive, it was USA 4043. It was later turned over to the Defense Logistics Agency and assigned to a depot just south of Richmond, VA, as DLA 87001. There it was nicknamed "The Admiral" and sister locomotive was nicknamed "The General" due to the joint-service nature of the base. It was painted yellow, like Navy locomotives, because DLA piggybacked the locomotive on a Navy painting contract.
