Here is page eight of a nine-page cover article by Bert Pennypacker entitled "The Mass-Production Ten-Wheeler." It was published originally in the October 1973 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 27. Top Photo Caption: "Performing in the service for which she was built, G-5s No. 3064 cruises with a Pittsburgh-bound 'Pitcairn Local' on Sunday afternoon, April 4, 1948, near the East Liberty [Pa.] station." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3064, a G-5S (4-6-0) "Ten-Wheeler" built in Juniata during September of 1923 and retired in July of 1950. Bottom Photo Caption: "The daily Philadelphia-Oxford (Pa.) accommodation, which used the electrified Westchester Branch as far as Wawa, usually was in the charge of G-5s 1592. Outbound, the train showered commuters and was known as 'Smoky Joe.' Inbound, it was known as the 'Mushroom Train.'" Shown here is PRR engine #1592, a G-5S (4-6-0) "Ten-Wheeler" built in Juniata during August of 1923 and retired in December of 1949.
