Union Pacific E9A 951 was parked at the New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal sand tower while visiting on the PREAMBLE EXPRESS. The 951 had been built in May 1955 and was one of eight E-units retained by the UP after the advent of Amtrak in 1971. It was repainted into this scheme by EMD at La Grange in June 1974 and was used to pull the special train between August and November 1974. The train arrived at NOUPT on the Illinois Central Gulf on 3 October and left on the Southern on the 7th. The loco was returned to UP in December 1974 and was repainted into UP colors in August 1977.
