| Posing as B&O 4-6-2 #5629 for a fan trip over the Chicago B&O lines is Grand Trunk Western #5629. It never appeared on the official B&O roster so is a "Cinderella" listing. Built by ALCo-Schenectady in March of 1924 as GTW 4-6-2 #5629, it was repainted as B&O #5629 for fan trips starting in 1961. This is long after it had retired from the GTW roster. A special crane was brought in to the Walkerton, Indiana yard just to load the coal for the fan trip and a water truck supplied the necessary water. Sadly, after a dispute between the owner, Richard Jensen, and Metra where it was stored late in the 1980's, it was sent to the scrapper on July, 14, 1987. . |
