IATR Steeple Cab #30 - Iowa Terminal RR |
Description: |
Built by McGuire in 1915, this little steeple cab has led an interesting life. Built for the Charles City Western Rwy (CCW) as their #300, it was part of the Iowa Terminal RR purchase of the CCW in 1963 and renumbered as #30 for the Charles City electrified section. On May 15, 1968, an F5 tornado went through Charles City, destroying the line’s overhead wires. The ITR decided not to restore the overhead but to “dieselize” the Charles City Division. Motors #53, #30, and Car #101 were transferred to Mason City and basically put into storage. Eventually Motor #30 was sold to the Illinois Railroad Museum, where it is in the final stages of restoration as CCW #300. Specs - 32 ft long, 9'3" wide, engine weight of 7,000 lb, 4 GE 205E motores. No photographer and date is approximate. |
