Title:
New Freight Locomotives, Page 8, 1963
Description:
Here is page one of a two-page article entitled "New Locomotives To Speed Freight Service." It was published originally in the January-February 1963 issue of "Pennsy" magazine, page 8. Top Photo Caption: "Trio of new GF-25's go to work, hauling trainload of iron ore on the main line near Newport, Pa." Shown here (R to L) is Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2509 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are GF-25's built by General Electric and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #2509 was constructed in September of 1962. Bottom Right Photo Caption: "At Enola, Pa., Electrician R.M. Herr inserts headlight bulb on an AF-24 locomotive." Partially visible here is PRR engine #2400, an AF-24 built by the American Locomotive Company in October of 1962 and rated at 2,400 horsepower.

PRR 2400, AF-24, 1963
Description:
Tipton. Here is an original phnto that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Tipton, Pennsylvania, on 04 August 1963. Shown here are PRR engines #2400 and #2238. #2400 is an AF-24 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1962 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. #2238 is an EF-22 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. They are about to pass over the grade crossing in Tipton with a mixed-cargo freight train on their way to Altoona for a climb up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West.
