Description: |
PRR Men. The second person from the right in this photo is Mr. James W. Young. He lived in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, but was employed as a chemist by the Pennsylvania Railroad in their Altoona Test Department. In additon to eeing an avid model railroader (with two distinct layouts!), Mr. Young not only gave me a large number of railroad-related magazines, but alro arranged for my Father and I to visit SLOPE Tower in Altoona during 1963. This photo was included in the "Altoona Area Railroad Pictorial History" edited by Linda White and published in 1996 by The Altoona Mirror, page 100. |

PRR Men. Here is a photo of Ken Sellers. After many years as a fireman and engineman on the Pennsylvania Railroad's Middle Division, he finished his career as a hostler at the East Altoona Roundhouse. He's shown here in August of 1960 with PRR engine #5820 that was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as a 3,000 horsepower BP-60 for passenger service in February of 1948, later regeared and downgraded to a 2,500 horsepower BP-50 for freight and helper service, and retired in April of 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service. |

PRR Men. Here is the obituary of Herbert P. Ruck (1903-1971) from the 22 September 1971 issue of the "Altoona Mirror." The caption reads (in part): "He entered the employ of the Pennsylvania Railroad at Fort Wayne on Aug. 19, 1919, as a carbuilder apprentice. He came to Altoona Nov. 16, 1951, moving on to Philadelphia as superintendent of passenger equipment April 12, 1964, and retiring there Sept. 1, 1968." He was also the overall Superintendent of the PRR's Altoona Car Shops from 1960-1964. |
